Portraits
My first painting was a large black and white portrait of Stevie Ray Vaughn I painted at sixteen years old. Since then I have done many other portraits of famous musicians, and of friends and family. Though I often use color, I find a power in black and white that I feel nowhere else in painting.
Gravity Pulls
This series is closely related to my Playing With Gravity series in that they both depend on the force of gravity. The paintings in this series all have a similar drip patterns in them, these drips are created when I let gravity pull the paint. Some are more then drips however, I often add a photo realistic painted image on top of the very abstract background. This combination of loose and refined techniques intrigues me.
Vice and Virtue
This series is about finding your vice, and the virtue that comes from this vice. This is a very personal series for me; the paintings are all inspired by experiences I have had and have deep meanings in my life. This series was a break away series for me - it was the first movement away from the black and white portraits. Showing these works is difficult for me, though I feel it is an important step in releasing the thoughts and emotions that these paintings contain.
America Up Close
This series is a challenge to the mentality of many Americans, targeting the political, social, environmental and personal issues I see in America. This is in-progress, and will be a series of over 25 paintings. This is also a very emotional series for me, as it is difficult for me to challenge many of these issues for personal reasons; many of the pieces express the changes I want to make within myself.
